“This is a question that most people want to have answers to, but due to the level of ignorance still in some charismatic circles, we rarely will address it.”
– Derek Schneider
I remember a few years back when my family, myself and our church went through a very difficult season. I was crying out to God regularly for answers, as this challenge ripped right through our family and church and it seemed as though God was silent. Although, in all honesty, I should say it seemed like God was schizophrenic! There was no shortage of people having dreams and visions, advice, and words of prophecy. Even I became confused in my ability to hear God during this time. It was actually quite amazing the amount of “words” we were receiving from many good-hearted individuals in our church and beyond, yet the amount of contradiction and even manipulation was staggering, even from many who, I thought, were credible people. I was not living in sin; I had a strong prayer life; and yet it just seemed that crisis had surrounded all of us.
It was around this time that someone recommended a Christian counsellor and for me to consider scheduling a few sessions and sharing with them. Of course, thinking I was the “great man of faith”, I wouldn’t even consider ever enduring even a few sessions with a legitimate counsellor. Why see a counsellor? I am anointed; I have the baptism of the Holy Spirit; I have the “mind of Christ”; and I have even performed miracles in the Name of Jesus! So I put it off and set it aside and continued to wait on God for Him to solve my problems. Unfortunately weeks and months passed and the situation only got worse.
Finally, out of desperation, I “prayerfully” attended a session with this Spirit-filled counsellor to open up about this challenging season. Before attending, I was advised by various people not to go, and that, if I did go, I certainly must keep it a secret and not let anyone in the church know. After sitting down with this particular counsellor for one hour, which wasn’t cheap I might add, to my surprise, I began to get answers! Not only was this counsellor a highly trained EXPERT in her field with the degrees to prove it, she opened in prayer, and facilitated a godly atmosphere in a real office and professional environment. It was evident she was called, anointed, and also TRAINED in her sphere to excel! In fact, I was so amazed by the wisdom she functioned in, in that one session, that I booked another one.
Over the period of the next few months, I continued attending these counselling sessions, much to the surprise of some, and the results were extraordinary! I not only got the answers to the questions I had been asking the Lord, but I also discovered so much about myself, our family background, and some bad “ministry habits” I had picked up along the way. I even received the tools necessary to handle what was going on around me at that time. In short, it was exactly what I needed to move forward free and unhindered as a mature minister. What I had been praying about for close to a year in frustration, she seemed to be able to answer in a few meetings.
This counsellor was not only a very spiritual, godly praying individual, but she also was excellent in wisdom in her field. This balance produced a double edged sword that really changed my life. I wondered why I hadn’t done this sooner, and I definitely no longer felt any shame whatsoever about seeking wisdom from trained professionals in their field. After all, I might have been a man of faith and anointing, but I was not an expert in ALL spheres of life – no matter how highly I thought of myself. Sometimes when we think of “wisdom” we think of something mystically given to us. In actuality, wisdom is really “knowledge applied correctly”, whether it comes directly from God or not. Let’s also not forget that the bible does not say “prayer is the principle thing”. It says that wisdom is the principle thing.
To my surprise, even after God used professional counselling to help me get through that season, there were still those of the “one sided coin” that had issue with this perspective, many of them of the same tribe given to an extreme perspective on prayer and aspects of the charismatic. Some ridiculed me being “open” about the power of Christian counselling, mentioning it or recommending it from the pulpit. Of course, it is also important to note that there are times when strong personal boundaries and confidentiality is necessary. Some went so far as to try to talk me out of even attending during that season.
I think what was most frightening was that some of these “critics” were senior leaders in the Body who held the view that a professional counsellor could not be really anointed by God to help. I was even told that a professional Christian Spirit-filled counsellor doesn’t have true “authority” from God. Shocking! Imagine, a godly person, HIGHLY trained over a period of a decade, not having “authority” in their sphere of influence! And that a pastor, anointed but untrained in this field, is the only one with authority.
Am I saying that God could not have used a Pastor to provide the breakthrough?
Absolutely not! Pastors are “shepherds of sheep” and God can use them in many cases. But I do know that when I want my oil changed or something fixed on my car, I take it to a mechanic, not a Pastor. I go to a person who specializes in that field. In the same way, if I needed heart surgery, I would gladly welcome prayer and counsel from a pastor or leader, but I would also want a heart surgeon performing the actual surgery because that is their area of expertise. I would, however, enter into surgery praying for God’s supernatural hand to be upon that surgeon.
You see God is brilliant! He has given us all different callings and abilities with great diversity. He has designed each and every one of us to excel in our particular sphere of influence and to rule and excel well in our place of calling. We, as believers, are spiritual beings, but, as we discover our sphere that God has called us to on earth, we must also learn the laws and principles that govern that sphere of life and become the head and not the tail in that sphere. We must be excellent in both spiritual wisdom and earthly wisdom and be “dual rulers” like Daniel. Our generation is ready for the elite human beings to arise and possess spheres of life ushering in the Kingdom of God.
Here is an interesting concept I call “Dual Citizenship for Dual Rulership” or the “Elite Human Being”.
It is the glory of the Christian to be able to function in excellence in both spirit realm principles and material realm principles. This is called dual rulership, and it makes us unique, and even “elite” in comparison to those who do not know God.
In actuality, Christians have dual citizenship. We are spirit beings and we have citizenship in heaven. We also have a natural realm body. Therefore, we have citizenship on earth. If we can learn to be excellent in both realms, as Jesus was, we can bear an accurate image of God on the earth. We can be real sons and daughters who are able to lead society.
To function in dual rulership means that we as human beings strive for excellence in two realms, both the “natural earthly realm” and the “spiritual realm”. To rule in the spiritual realm refers to living a Godly life, the practice of all spiritual exercises, such as prayer, intercession, gifts of the spirit, etc. The Scripture makes it clear in Ephesians 2:6 that we are “seated with Christ in heavenly places”. This is our citizenship in heaven; therefore we have access to heavenly things and all the benefits of the Kingdom of God. Also, at the same time we are spirit beings in an earthly suit called a body of flesh. Our bodies automatically give us a citizenship on earth. This body and our lives here are also subject to earthly laws and principles, principles that if we adhere to with excellence, can cause us to prosper here on earth. Some of these laws and principles cause us to prosper in health, family, marriage, finances, and in every sociological sphere of life.
Dual-rulership can be seen in the life of the prophet Daniel. He, for example, was excellent in both spiritual and earthly wisdom! This was his secret in promotion and it is these kinds of people that God wants to occupy the places of influence in society. They are the mature sons and daughters who add anointing and grace to their educated minds and become “personalities”. There was a time when some Christians believed studying in a university or getting a PhD was secondary to getting an “anointing”. But in order to have true influence in society, one must become excellent in both. This is the future of the Church, the elite human being, the image of God.
For example, a Believer should know how to pray and shift the heavens when it comes to Parliament or national political issues. At the same time, we also need individuals who know how to walk into Parliament and bring influence. They need to know how to dress, know how to have a conversation, know the issues, and not only know the issues, but also have systematic solutions for them.
PRINCIPLE: It is our responsibility to search out the laws and
principles that govern a sphere of life and diligently live by them.
Many of us have not yet seen our full potential in God! Whatever sphere or environment you are called to, develop God’s mind on the matter and study the laws and principles that govern that sphere. Develop and prepare yourself to be a success in that sphere, not for your own personal gain, but for the glory of God.
Of course, the anointing is powerful, but you can only go so far if you are only “anointed” and are ignorant of natural realm realities. Our job on the earth is to search out the principles and laws that govern a sphere and live by them.
When the heathen obeys laws and principles that God established, they are actually bearing God’s image and ability without even knowing it. They are taking responsibility and ruling in the natural realm. If God were not to allow man, saved or unsaved, to have free will (to choose obedience or disobedience to His laws and principles) God would be a dictator instead of a Father. When you see an unsaved multi-millionaire or doctor or any unsaved successful individual who is ruling over a sphere of life, they are utilizing God’s knowledge for their success, if it is TRUTH. Simply put, the multi-millionaire’s adherence to the laws of money brings a result based upon the laws he applied, whether he or she prays or not.
When we as human beings, whether Christian or unbelieving, apply certain laws and principles in life they can do incredible things. We sometimes think that when we use our brilliant God-given minds, gather information from books and apply what we have learned, that this is carnal, earthly or even secular. The Christian leader of today must learn to be excellent in both realms. This is our responsibility, as Christians on this earth, the original man, the elite human being.
Let the dual ruling Daniel’s of our generation arise!
