Racism and the “Great Wall of Mexico”
Trump was very clear–the Mexican government routinely empties their prisons at the borders, many of those are literally rapist and criminals. There is nothing xenophobic about wanting to require immigrants from countries with terrorism issues to be properly vetted.
Let’s talk about racism. America is the most diverse nation on the face of the earth. Does America have problems with racial issues? Absolutely. America actually is quite a great experiment in people living together from diverse cultures and trying to get along.
Now there is nothing racist about insisting that people who come to the US come there legally. The fact that things are bad where you are from is not a valid reason for you to violate the law. America is still a nation of law and order. And there are laws put in place for a reason. When someone expects you to live by the laws of the land which are not racially based, they are not being racists. I know there was a time in America when there were laws that were racially unjust. Regardless of what you believe, that is no longer the case. Obviously there are issues with how laws are enforced ie. profiling etc. That is a human moral condition problem and not a problem with the laws themselves.
There is absolutely nothing racist about building a wall along the southern border to secure the border. There is absolutely nothing racist about limiting the number of people from other countries who are allowed to legally come to your country. The government has an obligation to protect its citizens. That means there is an obligation to have to secure borders. Trump’s ambition in building a wall is not because of hatred towards anyone. In fact he has commented consistently regarding his love for the Mexican people, the Mexican people he does business with and the strong relationships he has south of the border. The building of a wall is because law and order demands that people who want to enter the United States must do so legally. Let’s stop calling people racist who are not racist. Let’s stop using inflammatory language in a discussion of ideas. Shutting other people down, with outrageous comments does not mean your point will be heard and received. Let’s practice the art of disagreeing peacefully and preserving respect. Trump is not “Hitler,” and making statements like that reduces your ability to be received, listened to, and if you are a Christian individual – it is probably sin. Where Obama has been passive about the radical Muslim issue, with Hillary by his side, Trump is not. In my almost monthly trips to various European countries over the last 2 years, I have come to the conclusion that an aggressive defense is necessary to protect America from the plague of radical Islam. Although Trump’s outspokenness at times has landed him in hot water, and he is not a perfect man – he is standing aggressively in defense of America at an hour when strong leadership is needed.
